In Greene County district court Kevin Dean Ashworth, 50, of Scranton was sentenced Jan. 19 to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated (OWI)- second offense, amended from OWI- third offense. All but seven days of the prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. He must pay a $48 per day sheriff’s fee for the jail time he serves. He must complete the recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation he has already undergone, and he must complete a community college drinking drivers school. His driver’s license was revoked for six years.
Ashworth was fined $1,875 with a $656.25 surcharge and a $10 surcharge for drug abuse resistance education (DARE). He must also pay $120 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: Honorable Adria A. Kester)
Douglas Duane Owen, 34, of Churdan was sentenced to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of driving while license barred. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. He was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge. He must also pay $60 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. A charge of driving while license revoked was dismissed. (Sentencing: Kester)
Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows: Victorino Pena Perez, 38, of Jefferson, unlawful betting winning more than $500 less than $1,000, false reporting of financial transaction, fraudulent practice- second degree; Kyle Douglas Goodman, 27, of Perry, unlawful betting winning more than $500 less than $1,000; Richard J. Sabus, 53, of Churdan, theft- first degree, possession of stolen property (two counts); Kristen Abbie Langfitt, 24, of Dana, forgery; and John H. Berg, 60, of Churdan, assault with intent to inflict serious injury, assault by inmate with bodily fluids or secretions, criminal mischief- second degree. Trial dates were set for April 4 for Pena Perez, Goodman and Sabus, and for Feb. 28 for Langfitt and Berg.
Arrest warrants have been returned as follows: Joe Edward Blackmon, 40, of Jefferson, possession of methamphetamine- third offense, warrant issued Aug. 8 and returned Jan. 17; Sean Michael Allen Pollard, 28, of Jefferson, unauthorized use of credit card under $1,000, warrant issued Oct. 28 and returned Jan. 17; Danielle Jean Woodard, 36, of Jefferson, theft- second degree, warrant issued Nov. 7 and returned Jan. 13; and Carl Allen Janssen, 30, of Denison, forgery- four counts and ongoing criminal conduct, warrant issued Nov. 16 and returned Jan. 13.
